The only location unavailable was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador
Narrative
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, is thrust into a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future. The British government allows them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or film production, especially an American one. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
The characters and the plot work
Featured at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024) ). For a moment, I think it was about halfway through Season 1 of the series that one of the subplots went a little bit in a different direction than I expected, and that was a good thing. Otherwise, the dysfunctional relationships – both personal and professional – between the main characters kind of work, and I like that. The writers did a good job of keeping the action firmly focused.
The casting was well done
Sure, it’s not very believable, but it’s entertaining and occasionally suspenseful. “Madam Secretary” this is not; nor is it “Veep”. And that’s a very good thing. I should also mention that the acting and dialogue are also quite good.
Are they believable?
Again, no. But that’s okay. I understood very quickly that this is fantasy, not reality. Netflix did a good job on this.
Please don’t do it
I’m really looking forward to Season 2.
